About Fifth Third Bank Orlando Magic Maker Dr. Toni Moody
June Fifth Third Bank Orlando Magic Maker Dr. Toni Moody couldn’t stand on the sideline and be a spectator to what she terms, “an epidemic that is spiraling off the charts.”
The disease that catalyzed the 21-year pediatrician to start a non-profit health club six years ago: childhood obesity.
Through Health Masters Club, Inc., Moody teaches children the value of nutrition, exercise and a healthy lifestyle. The club works in partnership with schools and organizations to build a safer, healthier community while empowering young people to have a positive view of themselves while equipping them with the resources and tools to make smart, healthy choices for their lives.
“I saw a trend in pediatrics that was alarming at the very least,” explained Moody. “Kids were becoming adult-sized before their time and had the health complications to go along with it. I just couldn't sit by and let the gloomy health forecast for kids happen without doing my part in making everyone aware of these problems and creating programs to reverse this trend.”
Moody has been working tirelessly to reverse the trend, and her efforts haven’t gone unnoticed.
Her work is making an impact and has even been recognized by the United States Department of Agriculture. Just last year, Moody and Health Masters Club, Inc. received a Certificate of Appreciation from USDA for their “dedication and commitment to the American people by partnering with MyPyramid and accepting the challenge to end childhood obesity.”
And while Moody has made strides in combating the disease that jeopardizes the health and well-being of so many of America’s youth, she is nowhere near content with her current achievements.
“I am mission-driven,” says Moody, “to improve the well-being of children and their families by promoting a healthy lifestyle. That is the oath that I took when I became a pediatrician. That mission has yet to be realized. That is my drive.”
